This is a blog to answer some questions my teacher made us answer today; about Stuart Hall's Representation Theory.
2. a. When Media gives something, especially something in reality, their own meaning.
b. Meaning is something the producer/writer gives to something, and creates a piece of media out of that
c. A stereotype is a huge generalization of a social group that are created by the media, often represneting what the audience thinks of the majority if not all people part of that social group.
d. It happens because of two reasons; first because it's easier to use in media and such as most people in the audience already understand these stereotypes unconciously, so the producer can just use stereotypes with hopes and expectations that the audience understands it easily. Secondly, it happens because of a lack of diversity in the production/writing room.
e. The social groups that are represented in the media are Religion, Gender, Age, Race/Ethnicity, Social Class, LGBTQA+/Sexuality, and ones with Disability.

SOCIAL GROUP 1:
a. The social group is Village Farmers
b. Through different technical elements, they are represented as very goofy and uncivilzed, i.e. they have a wild and unpredictable sense of humor and they often wear poor clothes, and some that I've seen have teeth that are very scruffy and disordered and even yellow, which has connotations of even more uncivilazation. However, they are also seen as not only humble, but also are the most practical people out there. They are not afraid of getting their hands dirty and know how to get things get done, and while it may not seem like it, they are the forefront and foundation of Indonesian society. Examples of technical elements is how they often are shown in outside green sunny and hot areas like fields or buildings in progress. Both enviironments have connotations of outgoing-ness and 'much work to do' kinds of places, which farmers the best.
