Magazine Research

This is for my magazine research

Reflection: Ahhh, brings back interesting memories... Of me lying to my teacher and getting in trouble for it. I don't think I ever truly finished it due to the fact I never put stuff like the dropcap and etc...i should finish this at some point... Along with all my other blogs haha... God I have time management issues.

golfasia is a magazine published by [insert publisher here]. It features various golf-related content, most particularly in, as most people wouldn't guess, Asia.

Media Language
Things such as the general colour scheme of the text and the subject in the image being blue white and red is enough to match the whole golf schtick, since... golf also uses the same color scheme. However, another thing that adds to the golf language is the usage of sans-serif font, which is a very simplistic font, the reason this is used is because golf itself is a very simple and not very flashy sport and is rather simple in vibe compared to other sports, so it fits well. The main subject in the image, which is a medium shot of a blonde man holding a trophy in his arms, whilst smiling, could contribute to the gold-related media language as, not only is he wearing blue which as previously mentioned is part of the golf related color scheme, he is holding a trophy. This acsosiation of golf with victory and triumph could attract the audience to golf stuff, as it uses Stuart Hall's Representation theory, as in, it uses various media language to put the guy holding the trophy in a lighter manner.

Representation
As mentioned before, Hall's Representation Theory is used here by putting the blonde man holding a trophy in a triumphant manner. The subject is also an adult white male, which is what the main target audience is for golf, since most golf players, at least from what I've personally seen, is white males. However since it's Asians who are reading this, a white male as the main subject in the image might be used because Asians may look up to white americans when it comes to sports such as golf, so the foreign male subject image may attract the Asians. The use of a medium shot of the male subject, along with the blurring of the background audience, is used to put more focus towards the male subject and show his happy expression in winning the trophy. This media language also attracts the Asian audience somewhat.

Audience
Obviously the masthead means that it attracts an Asian audience, but to be a little more specific, it probably wants to attract the attention of Asians who are, obviously, into golf. Although, according to Uses & Gratification theory, they are also other reasons as to why the audience might consume this magazine. They could use the flashy and entertaining style of the magazine as a form of Diversion, or more sport-expert men might use it as Surveillance to simply see what goes on in current day golf.

Industry
Not much to say here, aside from the obvious. The industry it'll target is sports related, more specifically golf, and the sport places at Asia.
